Research Proposal

What is my current topic?

Should we always follow majority opinion?

We often make a decision based on idea of the majority at school, home or even in a society. But is it always work? I mean, what if a few people's ideas are better than others? Is it good for us only following majority opinion? Doesn't it interrupt our individuality or with expressing our opinion? There are many examples that the majority was not right to both the society and individuals throughout history.

What are my guiding questions?

I want to know some examples that can demonstrate that an opinion of the majority is not always right. And several unexpected results, even there would be victims. Through the research, I will offer a solution how to determine in a situation of discussion.

I also want to talk about popularity. Nowadays, many people following others' ideas, especially celebrities such as singers, think that a value of art or quality is less important than popularity. I will think about it carefully. Perhaps there would be examples of music or art saying that always following popularity that the public will be fascinated is not always a right answer. These ideas are all from concept, 'following the majority.'

How about the state of school? Students usually don't want to think something thoughtfully, and they sometimes are not enthusiastic. Especially in Korea, students usually do not express their opinion actively and start to say something when some of them begin to present their idea. Studies or some research toward students could be appropriate examples.

From the past to nowadays, people still follow others' ideas not thinking themselves carefully. There would be reality or condition of the world, and my opinion will follow. A concept of 'Identity' or 'Individuality' is also an important value. Through several examples and my opinion, I would assert that we should not always follow an opinion of the majority.

What are my current thoughts?

One day, I have heard about the confrontation between heliocentric theory and geocentric theory. I realized that the majority is not always true. Therefore I want to find out some more examples and I want to assert that we should not always follow an opinion of the majority. They're not always right. It can negatively impact our identity, creativity, and the society.

What is the opposition?

Opposition might say following the majority is safe and democratic, even the most impartial. Furthermore, many people still think that following the majority and trend is the most reasonable way. However, I want to against the idea that we should follow majority opinion and also extend my argument to concept of 'trend' which created by the majority.
